Target Audience :
  • Fresh university graduates
  • University students
  • New workers in the field

Workshop Description:

This show and tell exercise will take the participants through the radiation therapy process from simulation to planning and dosimetry and then to the treatment rooms. A lecture describing the radiation treatment process will precedes the visit to the different state of the art treatment machines. This visit will provide participants with good impression about the latest technology used in radiation therapy. Some of the following machines will be visited, CT Simulator, Cyberknife, TomoTherapy, RapidArc, Truebeam Linac. In addition to radiation therapy, a visit to the different radiology modalities will take place during the second day of the workshop. A lecture describing imaging process using different modalities will be given before a visit to the recent state of the art radiology machines. This visit may include nuclear medicine (SPECT/CT and PET/CT), CTs, MRIs and others.

These visits will provide participants with an idea about daily work and machines used. Participants will sense the strengths and weaknesses of these modalities and the importance of each compared to others. These lectures and demonstrations will help to enable participants to choose their career and future profession.

Learning Objectives:

After this workshop, participants will:

    1. Distinguish the different modalities of Radiation Therapy and Radiology and their capabilities.
    2. Recognize the role of personnel in each modality.
    3. Be able to choose among the different modalities.
